ABS..Wheel speed sensor resistance values.

Unread post by jamie-n »

Had a search here and elsewhere online but nothing specific found, just wondering if anyone
knows or could direct me to something showing the resistance values of the speed sensors
located on the hubs of a 2012 207 cc 1.6 petrol.

Mine are showing different values on all 4, all of them well away from the allowable percentage
differences between each other, just trying to find out which one is correct (or closest to being correct) if any!.

A proper diagnostic with PP2000 or Diagbox will provide a fault code and advise which one (if any are giving problems). It's more likely to be a matter of the data being received being incorrect from the poles or a fault in the sensor cable itself.

The wheel speed sensors will likely be a kind hall effect type (even though they only have 2 wires) meaning a resistance check wont give anything meaningful.
Resistance checks are only really any good on the older inductive type sensors.
Hall effect read a magnetic track in the hub & inductive read 'teeth'.

Yep the sensors are active ones but the 2 cable type, the thing is though you can still take a reading (of sorts) from them and the readings on mine were 2.7, 2.8, 1.3 and 3.2
which surely indicated something was amiss, so not currently having any access to Lexia3 / Diagbox I set off along to our local Upullit with my multimeter, they have several 207s
in the yard and I tested the sensors on a few, all of bar one were showing 2.8 or thereabouts, so I managed to remove 2 which were not rusted solid (the usual) and paid
4 quid for them at the desk.

Back to the car and installed them replacing the 3.2 and the 1.3, both were on the rear incidentally, wheels back on and started the car, ABS light still showing but only
the ABS FAULT message appeared on the screen at this point, the ESP message was now gone, so deduced the ECU might need the signal sent so into first gear and took
off trying to get it over 10mph in the space I have in our yard, nothing first attempt so reversed back, hit the accelerator again and voila! the ABS light went off!.

Driven it out this morning and all good, no warnings showing. So just for reference if you have a duff wheel speed sensor and replace it with a good one you don't
neccesarily need diagnostics to clear it. Be a massive help diagnosing where the fault was at the beginning right enough!.
