C5 X7 error codes, please help (vin included)

Unread post by HdiFan2Zero »

Hey,

I recently bought a Citroen C5 X7 2015 2.0 HDI and I have the following errors

P2563
c5-1.png
P1490
P1351
20250223_004231(1).jpg
VIN CODE: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

Could someone give me some pointers what can I do to diagnose the issues?

Deal with the Turbo problem first, as this may also be a cause of the P1490 fault (see first item on list of suspects).

The last fault concerning the relay or the glow plugs will not normally be a cause of the issues as the plugs are really only used for very cold temperature starts, but can also be used as part of the assisted regeneration process if commanded by the engine ECU.

So deal with the turbo issue first, then clear the fault codes and go for a long run - if the engine ECU still cannot perform a regeneration then you need to see which codes remain and start checking the condition of the particle filter, the additive quantity etc. What mileage / KMs has the vehicle done? It may be that the filter is at end of service life and needs a thorough clean or replacement.
Fault Code: P2563
Description of Fault:
  • Turbo position copy signal fault: Negative gap between the reference turbo position and the position measured. Negative gap for 5 seconds between the reference turbo position and the actual position: the position measured is higher than the reference by 20% (too much turbo pressure).
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Driving for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Deactivation of regulation of the turbo position
  • Cutting of the automatic initialisation of the turbo actuator bearings to the ignition being switched off
  • Change to "easy move" torque invalid (Deactivation of automatic mode for the electronic parking brake)
Symptoms:
  • Noise
  • Diesel fuel consumption a bit higher
  • Lack of power
Suspect Areas:
  • Turbocharger position copy sensor
  • Electrical harness
  • Connector
  • Vacuum problem
  • The variable geometry of the turbocharger is locked
  • Particle filter
  • Air metering valve

Fault Code: P1490
Description of Fault:
  • Regeneration not achieved: Regeneration request too frequent.
  • Number of regeneration requests aborted 2
  • The ECU changes to kilometric regenerations
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • After a complete cycle of regeneration of the particle filter
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
Symptoms:
  • Engine hesitating, cutting out
  • Lack of power
  • Noise
Suspect Areas:
  • Pneumatic meter of the turbo air cooler by-pass
  • Particle filter
  • Particle filter differential pressure sensor
  • Particle filter upstream temperature sensor
  • Soft pouch of the additive reservoir
  • Additive pump
  • Additive tank
  • Catalytic converter
  • Anti-return valve (Between the reservoir and the additive hose)
  • Customer making very short journeys
  • Lack of additive in the reservoir
  • Electrical harness
  • Connector

Fault Code: P1351
Description of Fault:
  • Pre-heating relay circuit: Coherence ; Relay supplied and glow plugs not supplied.
  • The information from the preheating control unit indicates that the relay is open even though the ECU commands the closing of the relay for 5 seconds
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Ignition on
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • -
Symptoms:
  • Lack of power
  • Noise
  • Jerking/stalling
Suspect Areas:
  • Pre-heater plug
  • Electrical harness
  • Pre/post heating relay
