What's going on?

Unread post by Dogbox »

I bought a 2019 Berlingo MPV last month and within two weeks of having it the EML came on and shortly after an Adblue fault warning light. I booked it in to the Citroen dealer where I bought it from, but they couldn't fit me in earlier than two weeks later. They said I could drive it carefully if the warning lights stayed amber so I drove it a few times with no problem, then a countdown started saying I couldn't drive it in 700 miles. It isn't a low level problem as it had a major service before I bought it, and the warning light says it's a fault.
Finally the car went in for diagnostics, it came up with PE20EE which they said is a generic Adblue fault and have done further tests on it. They said it was producing a lot of white and blue smoke. Today, they rang to say they can't find anything wrong with the Adblue system, but are replacing four fuel injectors (after the warranty people have come out and assessed it).
So I am mystified as to why both the car and the diagnostics say it's an Adblue fault, I don't know much about engines but surely the fuel injectors are another system entirely? The car has full dealer service history as it was previously a Motability car, so should have had all the correct procedures at the right time. Anyone any ideas? :(

Dealer services do not include filling the Adblue tank unless you ask for it and pay extra. I found out when our 308 gave a low Adblue warning not too long after a service. You could check the service receipts if you have them to see what was done. Whilst this will not help for now but something to be aware of.

My experience, albeit some six or seven years ago, is the opposite. I put our 308 in for a service and told them that I had just topped up the Adblue and so it didn't need to be done. When I got the bill I was charged for Adblue. I queried it and was told that, as part of the service, the Adblue tank was evacuated and a measured amount of Adblue put in. This method was to make sure the tank wasn't over or under filled.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Dealers may have changed to try and extract more money. When the Cactus was serviced 2018 and 2019 they put in Adblue, later services I did but our first 308 service in 2020 and all later ones at the same dealer (Citroen and Peugeot main dealer) did not include Adblue and I think is not listed on the service schedule.

I think you have the incorrect Fault Code.

Please confirm this should be P20EE.....
Is this a 1.5 Blue HDi? Even better the VIN would help me. Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.

However if the fault is P20EE then the recommended dealer action is to first confirm this fault is present, second is to check that the engine management ECU software is up to date and if not update it. If it is already on the latest version, then the guided diagnostics has to be followed and the solution implemented at the end, and in all cases to reinitialise the deNOx system faults.

Hi, sorry yes the code is P20EE. The VIN number is VR7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] it’s a 1.5 HDi
