2010 C5 3.0 HDI Wiring Diagram Help

Unread post by DHallworth »

Does anybody have access to or know what I'd be able to find a wiring diagram that covers the power feed to the suspension pump on my 2010 3.0 HDI C5?

VIN - VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

I've just put a new clutch pulley on the alternator. When I started the job the suspension on the car went up too high with no issues. Upon starting the car after doing the pulley swap the suspension pump isn't running at all.

I've checked the 40A maxi fuse which is on the side of the under bonnet fuse box and it looks intact visually and checks out for continuity when checking with a multimeter. It appears to be the fuse in position 3 on my car. None of the others are 40A fuses.

I've checked for continuity from both sides of the 40A fuse to the 2 pin plug on the suspension pump that has 2 heavy grey wires going into it and I don't seem to have continuity between any of them.

I'm just looking to get a copy of the wiring diagram so I can trace it out and know I'm checking the right things before going off on a tangent and wasting time.

I'm wondering if I've knocked something when doing the alternator pulley but I can't see anything in the vicinity of where I've been working. It's also the 3rd pulley I've changed and I've not had any trouble before.

Thanks in advance for any help.

David.

If it’s just that you should be fine but anything else it will likely be different on a V6 given the suspension differences. Let me know.

Thanks Marc,

I located the big relay and checked for continuity between the fuse and the relay and didn't get anything. I then checked between the relay and the pump and had continuity. After a bit more digging, it turns out I had been looking at the 3rd fuse in the tray which was a 40A fuse, turns out I was looking at fuse 5!

Fuse 3 on my car has a 50A fuse in it, not the 40A one that's referenced everywhere. It's an original fuse that matches all of the others and has the same yellow pen on it too so I don't believe it's been changed in the past.

When I looked at the correct fuse it was indeed blown! I've ordered some replacements and some contact cleaner and will see how we get on this evening.

I'm short of time at the moment (and it's bloody freezing outside) so I'm tempted to replace the fuse and see if it'll give me a couple of weeks but I know that I should probably be dismantling the pump to clean it up too.

David.

:-D

Glad you found the culprit - that's absolutely correct, they seems to have changed the fuse rating from 40A to 50A on some - which may be worrying if it's going to allow it to heat up more before blowing. I think you're right - a good clean up to exorcise the carbon paste is the only way to remedy it. A job for the summer I think!

In the end I stripped it down and replaced the motor with the motor from a low mileage pump I had sitting in the workshop.

I've done 800 miles last week in the car for work and it's not missed a beat. Was a fiddly job to get it all sorted but it's done now :)

Thanks again, Marc.
