DS5 2016 Creaking Noise

Unread post by Mcnuggetsaway »

Hi All,

I have a strange fairly quiet creking noise when first driving from cold. The noise goes away after 5-10 minutes but is very peculiar.

I have recently changed wishbones, lower ball joints, ARB bushes and drop links. Wishbones were knackered so changed the other bits whilst at it. Got rid of a horrible squeak caused by ARB bushes but still left with this strange creaking.

The noise seem to be suspension related but does sound itself when the car moves. No creaking noise when stationary.

As mentioned it completely goes away after 5-10 mins of driving but was hoping someone may have come across this same issue in the past.

Any help would be much appreciated 👍

Hi mcnuggets,
That's uncanny, I too have a 2016 ds5 and have also had the same creaking that you have described for the last 2 weeks. Sounds almost like rubber squeaking rather than a metallic noise. Also nothing when stationary or reversing but predominant when maneuvering at low speed such as parking or pulling out of my drive. Very bizzarly though, I left work today after being parked for 9 hours and it's magically gone. I'm baffled, thought I had trashed something with the massive pot holes we have to put up with but the suspension seems fine and there's no noises when travelling on bumpy roads or crossing speed ramps.
I'm hoping that someone on here has an answer because I am baffled.
My car has just passed 78000 miles.
Good luck solving this one
Cheers

If this noise was predominantly first thing in the morning, I'd have also thrown in that it could be the rear brakes. Mine used to groan when moving off in the morning. Fitting a rear stone brake guard as recommended by Citroen solved that, but as yours seems to be when moving or manoeuvring, unlikely to be the case.

But don't discount your brakes - especially if the discs are worn / rusted as these can cause this sort of noise if they get grit or rust caught in there - especially in winter months with the damp / moisture.

Thanks to you bith for your replies.

It's really quite a strange one! Its when the car is fully cold and goes away after 5 to 10 minutes. Its like a dull rattly/creaky sort of noise but the fact it goes off so soon makes it harder to diagnose. I would say it's fairly quiet but certainly noticeable and does seem to be coming from the front end of the car, I have a fairly good ear. I may just have to wait for it to get worse if something truly is wearing away or degrading. I've had the car 6 months now and it hasn't necessarily got any worse but has been there since day one. Hay Ho... I'll just carry on for now, if I ever find out I'll be back on hearing letting everyone know what it is in case they ever experience it themselves. The beauty of forums hey!
