308 GT Line speed bumps

Unread post by JamieLeeWV »

Hi has anyone had any issues with speed bumps on the 308 GT line?

Was going over speed bumps for the first time earlier and heard a slight scraping sound each time. Pulled over to check and lo and behold the underside of my car is now scuffed 🙄. It was the speed humps I've attached so they aren't particularly high off the ground (Although they do look higher than the images attached on maps) and I was going no more than 25mph over them

Is this just the design of the 308? The front of the car just sits lower to the ground? Or is there something suspension wise wrong?

Not had this problem, measure the height of your front wheel arches from the floor so it can be compared with our car, 2019 308 1.5 hdi GT Line estate. Presumably your car was not heavily laden. You could also measure the speed bump height.

It was not heavily laden, just me and my wife in the car.

I have attached pic of floor to wheel arches and then floor to start of front bumper

On our 308 measured from the floor, the top of the front wheel arches I measured as 26½ inches at the highest point through the wheel centres and the front bumper middle at the point furthest forward as 8 inches. The clearance above the tyres to the wheel arch is nearly 2 inches. The tyres are the standard size ones Pilot Sport 4 (originally 3 but no longer sold) and are 225 / 40 ZR18 (92Y). The tyre pressures are set at the recommended ones on the door pillar sticker.

I can not tell if you have measured as I have done but in your picture the wheel arch is 2 inches lower so I would check again but the front bumper might be the same as ours. If your car is lower by a couple of inches and your tyres are not flat, then a previous owner might have fit none standard front springs to lower it, or they may have broken. If your car is as ours then I would consider claiming against the council if the speed bump is too high.

Apologies for the late reply.

The front bumper is 8 inches I have just measured again.

The front wheel arch at highest point down the middle on mine I re measured at 25.5 inches with a clearance from tyres to arch of 2 inches. My rear wheel Arch is 27 inches from the floor with a clearance of 2.5 inches. Is this normal? For front to be lower than rear? Or have I got a suspension issue?

Lower at the front + clonking noise? I'd be checking the spring is not broken!

Just checked and the rear wheel arches on our car are both slightly less than 26½ inches measured through the wheel centres so almost the same as the fronts. This is also on a level drive so not pointing up or downhill.

Do you have the same tyres front and back and same size ? As Richard suggests, you might have a spring problem.

Yeah same size tyres.

As another thread I posted, there is a clunking noise coming from what looks like the front end of the car, so the car is booked in to garage tomorrow to diagnose if any spring or ball joint issues.

The car is still covered under dealer warranty as I rung the warranty company earlier and they confirmed if it's a suspension issue then it is covered, just want to get it diagnosed now as the constant clunking is annoying at low speeds and when I took it to get it booked in for tomorrow the mechanic has a glance and said the rear arches look higher than the front ones, so I'm wondering if the front ones have fallen down a little maybe.
