C5 X7 3.0 V6 Coolant Change - Bleeding?

Unread post by wurlycorner »

Hi all
As part of working through the 'baselining' servicing on the new (to me) X7, I may get round to changing the coolant this weekend.
I don't have a vacuum fill tool and have no intention of investing in one, so before I do so, is there anything special about bleeding the system on this engine?
Any particular bleed screws I should know about, please?
Have done a search on the forum but not turned anything up unfortunately - only a post Marc did with the parts diagram for the cooling system hoses etc. (couldn't see any bleeders noted).
Thanks

There are 2 of them, one on the thermostatic house, and one behind the motor in the heating tube.
Just open them and fill the reservoir without running the engine.
Wait until the bleed screw on the thermostatic house spill, the close this one and the same on the heating tube.
Greetings,
Kees.

Iain, the procedure is already up here in the resources section and is identical for the DW10BTED4 engine:

C5 X7 DW10BTED4 Draining / Refilling Coolant

It is essential the system is degassed and this is explained, just ignore the section for the Euro 6 engines.

Ok, so I was underneath it today for the first time (oil change and looking it over to see what I'd actually bought  ).
As usual, came out with a longer list than I went under there with - but overall very pleased and fixed some of those while I was there (which was very pleasing considering I didn't know of them prior)however back to the point of this thread...
Just as I was looking around for the next time to do the coolant - I couldn't actually see where to drain the coolant from?
No drain plug on the bottom of the radiator that I could find?
Surely it doesn't need anything as crude as pulling the radiator hose off?
Anyone point me at what I've stupidly missed?
Thanks

 when I read it the first time, I jumped straight to reading about the bleeding (because that's what I was interested in).
Frankly quite shocked that the official way really is to disconnect the coolant hose (no drain plug). That's crap!

This is the way it has been on all PSA models from at least the last 25 years if not longer Iain, with variations in the bleeding part.

CX and Xantia have drain plugs on the rads - could have sworn both my Mk1 C5's do as well, but it's a while since I changed the coolant on those so my mind might be recollecting incorrectly...

Confirmed - both C5 Mk1 I have (2.0 HDi and 3.0 V6) have drain plugs on the bottom of the rad.
If that's not on the X7 then it is what it is, I'm just grumbling that I don't understand why PSA have gone full caveman on that for the X7 (and other models too, apparently?). None of the rest of my fleet is like that (even my oldest car from 1981!).

Sorry for reviving an old thread, and hello everyone, as this is my first post here.

I'm about to replace the coolant in my 2012 3.0 V6 HDI. The current coolant looks rusty, so I believe its corrosion inhibitors have worn out.

I've done my research and located the bleed valve on the heater hose, but I've had no luck with the other one. Could anyone with a 3.0 HDI engine post a picture of the second bleeder?

"Bleed valve : There are 2 of them, one on the thermostatic house, and one behind the motor in the heating tube."
This is how it should be, but maybe there is no other blaad valve. It is much more important to flush the system thoroughly so that the rust comes out. I have attached below a link where you can see how someone did it. I would prefer to eventually after washing try to expel all that water with air. Because the water with which it is washed is from water pipes and is full of limescale.

Thank you for your reply Mihael!

Yes, indeed I'm going to flush the whole coolant system with new coolant and after that once again replace it.
I will use the new coolant fluid to flush it and will not use a water for that purpose. It will be a bit more expensive, yet will not introduce a water into the system.
As for the heater core, I will try to give it an extra flush as it is shown on the YT clip, however, Im not sure now if the hoses will come off. Will not force them too much, because Im affraid the plastics are bristle and may crack.

Returning to the second bleeder: I checked several sources, including that one https://citroen.c5x7.fr/v6-hdi-fuite-ld ... sortie-eau
I could not locate the bleeder cap on the water outlet with thermostat houisng :(
Image

Is that even possible that actually there is only one on the heater pipes?

I think the information that Kees posted is for the petrol 3.0 V6, rather than the HDi 3.0 V6 and I suspect that's the reason for the difference.
