406 TD Coolant Issue

Post by andy.clee »

Just bought a 1996 model which had apparently had a very recent coolant change however, it was periodically leaking coolant after being used. Did it have too much coolant in? has this model got a drain to dump excess coolant if overfilled? it has stopped now but the coolant level is only just at the minimum mark in the tank so needs topping up again, i am not sure if i have a leak or not because it doesn't always leak.
Any ideas?
Cheers

I would try a new cap on the tank first [;)]

If this system is anything like a 405's, (which I believe it is) then it may be that the system was not bled properly, and the entrapped air is expanding, blowing out a load of coolant, and then contracting, giving a low coolant reading. Along with a new cap (always worth the odd £) I'd refill the system and make sure it's completely bled.
