Heater flap control motor

Unread post by oneownerc3p »

We have a 2011 Citroen C3 Picasso Exclusive which we have owned from new. A few minutes after you turn the ignition off there is normally a whirring noise from around the heater controls which is I guess is one of the heater flap control motors resetting. Today I noticed that this noise was much louder than normal and it sounds like the motor was struggling a bit. This version of the car has the full climate control and I see that there are about five motors to control the heater flaps. Would anyone know which motor is likely to be causing the noise and how difficult they are to replace?

Thanks

Not without determining which one and that is not easy without further investigation. There are reduction motors that control both the air distribution and temperature, so determining if any are faulty is going to be difficult until one of these actually fails. Testing each side by diverting the air flow to top, middle or bottom on both sides. one at a time (if you have dual zone climate) to determine which side if any, of the distribution motors has failed and again for temperature by adjusting fully cold and then fully hot.

If all is working, I suggest you leave it until certain it is a motor. Sometimes it can be a plastic gear operating a flap that wears or snaps. So I would suggest you leave it to develop and always leave the system on AUTO.

Marc,

Thank you for your fast reply. I did try as you said, adjusting everything, but it is difficult to hear as the car is a diesel! I think you are right about it being one of the plastic gears, we will see how it develops.
