3008 1.6 HDI Engine Cut out and not starting

Unread post by Delvey »

Good Afternoon and thanks in advanced for the help

I was driving my 2012 3008 1.6 HDI last week when the engine cut out and would not restart. At first I suspected the timing belt however this looks in tact. I do believe the water pump may have failed as the coolant tank is empty.

I have turned the car over and the belt looks fine, could the failure of the pump cause the belt to jump a tooth?
Please see below for pictures of the error codes. Could it simply be a faulty camshaft sensor?

Quick question, if the water pump failed and lost all coolant could this have damaged the camshaft sensor/wiring? As i believe it is directly below and slightly behind the water pump

If the pump has failled, the belt goes slack and can jump tooth or teeth, putting cam and crank out of sync
I would take off the belt covers and check without turning engine over any more, if its one tooth you may be lucky and no further damage

Thanks. What is the quickest/easiest way to check if a tooth has jumped? And is the damage similar to timing belt going?

Take off belt covers and see if timing pin hole line up, Yes same as belt failure, one of the admins might be able to provide procedure ,
There will be a hole to line up on cam sproket, Maybee one on flywheell or front pulley , depends on the varient of engine

I think almost certain the timing has jumped. As you have got diag tool go into the live data and find cam/crank synchronisation and watch it while you crank it. If it doesn't change to yes, the timing is out. To check the timing you need to remove the upper cover and the crank pulley - cam timing position is at about 4 o'clock, crank timing at 12. Loads of vids on you tube about changing the belt on this engine.
