Hi guys, currently have a 15 plate Ds5 1.6 e-hdi auto with the etg6 gearbox. While I've always loved the shape and design of the car, kind of wish I went for the 2 litre version for the extra power. The DS is a heavy car, so it's slow and the etg6 gearbox stutters around sometimes.
My question is I'm about to pull the trigger on a 65 plate 308 GT line 2.0 hdi with the EAT6 gearbox.
What's the difference between the etg6 and the EAT6? And will I feel the extra go considering the Peugeot has about 40 more bhp and is a lot lighter.
Anyone have experience with the 2.0 hdi engine? Are they reliable? Any issues to look out for?
Thanks.

Hi,
Can only really answer your question about the gearbox.
The EGT6 is pretty much a manual gearbox with electronic shifting built into - have heard they can be somewhat quirky as you describe.
EAT6 is a fully automatic gearbox with torque converter and is considered to be a very solid box even when you reach high mileage.
Wish I could give some feedback on the engine as I bought a 2.0 508 recently, it won't be put on the road untill mid February.
Can only imagine you'll have a much smoother ride in the 308 between the extra power and EAT6 gearbox.
Someone with road experience will hopefully chime in.

Ah I see. My current Ds5 is about to crack the 100k mark and while it has been reliable since I've had it (apart from a couple of tpms sensors dying) the etg6 gearbox bothers me with it's clunky changes and the fact you can feel the changes in the car so everyone I have a passenger I feel them sway forward a little due to the change, my wife said it actually gives her car sickness the motion
But that'll explain it then, a manual with an auto shift built in. Thanks for the help man.
As you said hopefully anyone who's had that car or engine can give their thoughts.
I have read online about the adblue tank failing on a lot of these cars, it's something I'll have to ask the dealership about I guess. But it's got a full service history and has only 69k on the clock, so for a diesel I'm guessing pretty good

The EAT6 is an Aisin box, and well regarded. It may need a fluid change every so often to keep changes smooth. The 2.0 engine also has a good reputation, fuel pump can give out around 100k but otherwise nothing really common. The ad blue problems affect everything, but are very random. Some go for ages without trouble, others give out very early. Make sure you use quality AdBlue that has been kept inside, not the stuff off garage forecourts, and don't overfill the tank. An anti crystallisation additive may help, but there's no real evidence for it.

Do you know if this version uses a wet belt? I know the 1.2 puretech turbos do but unsure on the 2 litre versions.

Std dry belt on this engine, pretty easy to change, and not known to give early trouble.

Totally agreed with that. As a 2.0 180hp EAT6 owner, i made all maintenance and service by myself. I bought the Lexia3 full chip even before receive the car knowing that they want good preventative maintenance. Changed the gearbox ATF oil and engine oil next day. Be careful Just to use right specs oils and filters. In 135k km i changed the timing belt kit and there was no problems with oil leaks from seals e.t.c.JamieLeeWV wrote: 01 Feb 2025, 13:55Thanks for info, very helpful.RichardW wrote: 01 Feb 2025, 10:53 The EAT6 is an Aisin box, and well regarded. Problems had only with adblue system, but even and a friend of mine with a ford, had same issues which seems to be common to this crap technology. In my case i just changed an injector and fill with anti crystalisation additive when i saw in diagnostic an intermittent fault about adblue tank P20E8. From what i understand It depends if you catch the problem to early before crystalisation do the damage. My friend for example in his Ford raptor, changed adblue tank and dpf because it got destroyed from crystals. He was lucky because car was in warranty.
A common problem also with high mileage 2.0 lt is the high pressure fuel pump because the shaft is getting worn and maybe damage the injectors.Otherwise no problems.Good acceleration and comfort ride in 2000 rpm and 135 Km.In 3000+, around 190 Km.
