Could be a wiring problem. Waggle the wiring whilst watching the gauge to see if anything happens. Also unplug the sensor and fit the old one to the connector to see if this does anything and also waggle the wiring around. If you have a volt meter check the resistance across the sensor pins, when cold it should be thousands of ohms but reduce as it gets hot to a few hundred. With the connector not plugged to the sensor it probably sees this as a fault so sets the temp to max and puts the fan on, similarly if the wiring has a break.

1598 petrol 59 plate
I unplugged the Connector and plugged in the old one out of the car and does same as the new sensor, I would presume it’s a problem within the Wiring ?
Could it be in the Dash maybe the signal not being received correctly?

Had what may be the same thing on our 1.6vti. The thermostat stuck open and the engine never got warm enough to move the needle. Was a common fault at the time.

I’ll immerse the old sensor in boiling water whilst still on the car to see if it’s the thermostat.

Put Temp sensor in cup of hot water and gauge works fine, Then took it up the road for a spin and the Gauge is working now! As it should.
Wondering if the road test dislodged something in the system anyway working now!

Hope it stays working. Possibly it has a wiring break and moving the wires joined up a break or possibly the connector pins were dirty.

I believe it to be the Thermostat not working as it should so I’ve ordered one and will replace it.
