the plastic link on the rear height control

the plastic link on the rear height control

The link keeps falling off the bottom lug, the one on the moveable part. There is a spring holding the other end in place, should there be one for the bottom?
I changed the plastic link when the original one fell off but this has not cured the problem.

It sounds like the ball has had its diameter reduced as a result of rusting, try it the other way around, the last one I fitted was tighter one way than the other.
