Gwin is a good girl. Inspector did have to rev her pretty hard to get the emissions down.
He pointed at my inside door lock repair and said it was clever, like "mac", a TV program. Eventually showed me on his phone, "macgyver" from the 80s. Blimey that brought back memories. We had a laugh about "the a team" too, which I watched a lot!

Re: Ax - passed annual inspection
Congrats Jaf
Excellent news!
Seems a lot of vehicles of Gwin's era need to be revved to heck and back to pass. I'm of the view it's because the cat is so far back in the exhaust system and well away, by modern standards, from the manifold so it takes a lot of very hot exhaust gas to get it hot enough to be fully effective. Also, it seems that if the original cat has been replaced with a newer smaller 'kitten' they too, containing less of the catalyst, need to be really hot to be fully effective.
I've heard that wrapping the cat and downpipe in exhaust insulation material to retain the heat can help... The MoT tester may take a dim view though unless the reason is clearly explained...
Main thing is, Gwin passed
No such problem with my two as neither has a cat...

Ahh interesting Jim. It's a fair distance to the test station, 50kms over a steep hill, but the last 15kms is motorway. The engine definitely cools down on the motorway. I'll have to remember to keep the revs up! As far as I know she's on the original cat.
Gwin wasn't the oldest being tested, there was a scruffy renault 4 there.

Still a lot of them round here. I think there's more of them than ax or xantias! Definitely on my list if something tragic happened to Gwin or Fred.

Re: Ax - passed annual inspection
They are very scarce in the UK now Jaf. Can't recall the last time I saw one 'in the wild'. Only really seen at shows nowadays...
That said, it's very rare to see an AX or Xantia too...
