C4gp remote control

Unread post by MartinJavurek »

Hi, I have a problem with the C key on my C4 GP, the remote control doesn't work. The car doesn't respond to locking at all.. The battery is ok. The classic pairing system doesn't work.. It couldn't connect the key to the Citroën either.. But otherwise I can start normally with the key.. Any ideas? VIN VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

Have you tried the spare key ? I would still fit a new remote battery since old ones still show the right voltage but may not work - I found this out with our C5.

Hello, check it's not an issue relating to the internal connections of the key, rather than the battery or re-initialisation.

I came across this video about the same issue.

Have you replaced the fob with an aftermarket version? If yes, the internal circuitry / frequency may be incorrect for the vehicle, which is a common issue with aftermarket units. It means the pairing will code the transponder chip in the fob correctly, but the circuitry for remote operations requires the correct frequency to communicate with the vehicle to operate and perform a handshake.

If not, then you may have dropped the fob and damaged the internals.

Neither the original 2 keys nor the new aftermarket ones work for me.

So bear in mind if you have programmed 2 aftermarket keys in later on and not included the previous originals in the same programming session (4 keys in total), then the previous keys will be locked out. You must always programme the complete number of keys you want to use in the same session.

So it's possible that if this is the case, you have locked out the 2 originals, and the 2 aftermarket ones may just be the incorrect frequency for the vehicle, hence why you're not getting remote functionality.

I programmed all the keys.. But the remote control hasn't worked since we got it. The chip frequency should be ok according to the Citroën service. But it still doesn't do anything.
