2011 C4 Mk2 - Wiper Problems

Hi All
I'm having an intermittent problem with the wipers on my C4 where when using the single down press, instead of just one or two sweeps to clear the screen, the wipers just go on for ages.
They do stop eventually although in one instance they stopped in the upright position and I usually start to use the wash facility after a while to prevent the dry screen squeak and potential excessive wear.
Any tips on an easy fix or what component to check/change would be greatly appreciated.

Possibly the wiper motor has a fault so needs replacing.

Thanks PaulC5, I guess I'll carry on as is until I can get a diagnostic on it. Was hoping for something easy like a common problem with an easy to swap and cheap relay but hey ho, onward and downward goes the eternal optimist

You might find a diagnostic costs more than a used wiper motor.
