Relay key programming

Unread post by Iainbell »

I was looking to get a new remote key for my 2020 Relay van , but seems to be a problem for a locksmith doing it. ( I don't have remote key for the van)
He says that he can't get past the security part with his machine and will need to go to dealer.
Seems there is one certain BSM that they can't do.

Has anyone else had this issue ?

I'm just wondering if i should try another locksmith.

Thanks

Have you tried a Citroen dealer ? I know somebody who could not find both remote keys to his Astra and the AA were able to supply new ones and it was not too dear but still a few hundred.

There was a change made to the BCM's (this is a Fiat system) but didn't think it was till around 2022, the later ones are only a problem if you want to do an aftermarket remote key, if you want to do it this way on the later encrypted system the BCM needs to be removed & the EEPROM read on the bench. This is why a lot of locksmiths will shy away from this job.

If the key it ordered from the dealer to the VIN of the van then its an easy job via OBD as long as you have the security PIN code, Most decent locksmith tools should be able to extract it from the car.

So when you say via OBD , if it Citroen key it can be programmed by a locksmith or with OBD?
I have a Delphi diagnostic and can get the pin code out from bsm.
I assume still need to be a key coding system required other than say my Delphi system?

Thanks

When I say this I mean it can be programmed via the OBD socket (with a suitable programmer) without having to remove modules & soldering etc.

To give you an idea whats going on Fiat system keys need to be 'pre coded' before they are programmed to the car, when doing an aftermarket key this precode data needs to be read from the BSI & written onto the key before you match it to the car, this is the difficult part on the newer models with encrypted BSI's. However, if you order the key from the dealer this comes with the pre coding already written to the key so this bypasses the need to read this data from the BSI which is the problematic part. You can then jump straight to programming the keys as long as you have the PIN code, this part is not encrypted.
I couldn't say about your Delphi unit however if it has the ability to read the PIN code i would be amazed if it can't program the keys. Please make sure that you program all the keys you have at the same or they will be scrapped.

Are you using a dealer ordered key of an aftermarket one?

I was trying to use an aftermarket key, Citroen want near £400 for a new remote key coded.
I was hoping get aftermarket key as much cheaper.
