Hi all, I just got an email from my dad whose friend's sister has aDS3 with the wet running belt and they're worried about the notorious concerns about their failures. Here's the text of the email:
Subject: Good Independent Citroen Garage
Bill,
Monica's sister Anna has a DS3 with the 1.2 VTi (82HP) petrol engine which has a wet (running in oil) timing belt.
Wet timing belts are turning out to be a big issue across various manufacturers with gradual belt deterioration due to running in oil causing particles to break off and block oil pick-up strainers and other parts of the engine long before the belt actually fails.
Apparently Peugeot / Citroen had recalls due to the number of engine failures (oil starvation) so reduced belt change intervals to 6 years or 65,000 miles whichever comes first.
Anna's car is 8 years old with 44,000 miles so is well into the 'at risk' category, even more so as these engines are supposed to use special oil, whereas when her car reached the end of its 3 year warranty (and end of Citroen Dealer servicing) she started putting it into a friend of a friend of a friend's garage for servicing - 'Wee Jimmy's Garage' underneath the arches who would probably just fill with 'Slipo' engine oil at £3.00 a gallon. In fact 'Wee Jimmy ' has already told Anna timing belts last for 10 years so no need to do anything !!!
Looking for an independent Citroen garage in the Glasgow area that will be familiar with the model, the timing belt issue and know how to replace it. I'm too old to be doing such a repair on the path.
My reason for contacting you is if you could ask Graeme if he knows of an independent Citroen garage who can be trusted to do the job.
Regards
Bill
Bill used to work in Cummins diesel quality engineering hence the wee analytical bit there about oil strainers...
I don't really know about where to recommend. The big Citroën dealer in Glasgow closed a few years ago. My dad thinks anything with a French car badge I know everything about but of course I don't! Only the oldies.
Anyone have experience with this DS3 timing belt thing?

I've heard of a few people say good things about Bruno at Tuga Garage. I've never used him personally though.
