Our C5 is going on for 18 years old, only 41k miles but due to its age I keep thinking I need to replace it before we are forced into electric cars. There is nothing wrong with it and we no longer have a caravan so do not need anything as heavy. Tomorrow we are going to look at a newish Skoda Octavia 1.5 petrol estate. I do not do many miles so a diesel is probably not the best choice now.
Anyone have any thoughts apart from do not do it ?

Need to know your budget before I can offer any sensible options I'd consider Paul

Re: 2007 C5 estate replacement thoughts
I am thinking of something nearly new, an estate around 1 year old so it should last me around 10 years. I had been looking at Mondeos but they are too old now, also Focus estates but newer ones seem to be hybrids with a 1 litre engine, newish 308s are automatics with puretech engines so not keen. Budget wise it could be £20k ish. I do not want a SUV type, it has to fit in the garage with space to open the driver's door.

Re: 2007 C5 estate replacement thoughts
I would suggest you consider the VW Passat, the only German car that I have found with a decent ride quality and maybe the Subaru Outback although that is probably biased by my own love of my Legacy and you'd have to go to two or three years old!

Re: 2007 C5 estate replacement thoughts
I had a go in the Octavia 1.5 petrol estate and quite liked it. My bike fit in the boot and with the mirrors closed it can fit through our garage doorway with enough room at each side so we might go for one of these. We will have another look next week. This one was a few months old and had a lot of fancy things not needed but it had a reversing camera which we want, having one in the 308 it makes parking easy and would not be without one now.

308? Puretec is ok now. C5x is almost an estate and super comfy.

Re: 2007 C5 estate replacement thoughts
I have a win win for you Paul. A manual estate that will fit in the garage, well within budget and give you some FCF street cred and even turn some heads down the high street, not to mention leave some cash for a holiday!! ( You can fit a reversing camera if you must!)

Your C5 with 41k miles is hardly 'run in', if it's otherwise sound I'd stick with it, nobody's going to 'force' you to go electric in the near future.
I have a mate with a C5 which is approaching 400k miles and he prefers to drive it over the near new VW Touareg his wife drives.

Re: 2007 C5 estate replacement thoughts
I am still tempted to keep the C5 since there is nothing wrong with it, servicing up to date, easy to maintain and goes well. Probably needs a new owner to get a few tens of thousands of miles out of it. The Skoda dealer offered £1000 part ex and when we looked at some other cars a few years old it is in better condition.Gibbo2286 wrote: 18 Jan 2025, 12:03 Your C5 with 41k miles is hardly 'run in', if it's otherwise sound I'd stick with it, nobody's going to 'force' you to go electric in the near future.

Re: 2007 C5 estate replacement thoughts
In the end we went for the Octavia estate, not used it much yet but first impressions are it is good. There are lots of electrical things on it which will take time to learn but one gimmick I thought not needed was the heated steering wheel - how wrong I was, it keeps my hands warm when normally cold.
Pleased to see the C5 was taxed and presumably back in use within a week by a new owner.
