white smoke

hi all
ive had my car for about 3 months now and when i start it in the mornings i get loads of white smoke
if i start it and keep my foot half way on the accelerator then i dont see much. to tell u the truth i cant remember seeing smoke when i first got the car.
as far as i know, either its the glow plugs or air in the fuel system
is that correct?
how can i distinguish which it is and how do i bleed the fuel system?
someone said prime the fuel system for 15seconds and start the car, if its fine then its an air problem

i just started the car and before doing do primed the fuel pump and while doing so i could hear a sort of hissing, like air leaking.
anyway, i pumped it until there was pressure, left it, then pumped again
nce started the car, it starts easier and no smoke
