Citroen EC4 all windows opening by themselves

Unread post by eC4Dude »

I have a fairly new Citroen EC4, only 6,000 km on the clock. After locking the car and hearing the double beep, when I returned to the car a day or two later I find that all four windows are fully wound down. The first time this happened I thought it must be something I did. But this is the third time it has happened so there is definitely something going on. The window opening and closing all works perfectly I can use the buttons. It doesn't happen every time, only once in a while. it's only happened three times out of the many times I've used a car.

Is there anything that could cause the car to do this? It's a big problem because at the moment it's been raining and now the car is pretty wet inside, not to mention having all four windows down it's not ideal for security.

I'm thinking maybe there's some function on the key fob that can open all the windows and it's getting a pockets push? Or is there a safety feature, maybe some passing kids are activating by banging on the car? (Guessing here), I don't know.

From another forum I found this post which may help. I wonder if your pocket does inadvertantly hold the open button pressed for the necessary time? : :)
"On the eC4 Holding the open button on the key fob opens all windows - holding the lock button closes all windows"
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

This is a common problem with these types of fobs with secondary actions - rule is don't keep them in your pocket! If you have Hands Free Access, then the best thing to do is get a fob case with belt fastener like I have:

Get one with a good solid bar. Then attach to belt loops AND make sure the fob then hangs in the trouser loop nearest your pocket for added security. I bought one for each fob and it's been perfect for the last 4 years. The leather case also helps prevent accidental button presses if you choose not to use the belt hook.

Thank you for the great advice, much appreciated. I never knew about this feature, and it's good to know it is doing something normal!

I also forgot to mention, get yourself a couple of Faraday pouches if you don't already have them and store your fobs inside when in the house, to prevent relay signal theft of your vehicle.
