you can run a direct feed from the battery positive straight to the stop solenoid, and see if the engine will run like that. Only problem is that the engine will now not stop until you remove said cable. If you can find an "ignition live" somewhere, and wire that to the stop solenoid, that will completely bypass the engine immobiliser. That is, assuming the injection pump hasn't got any other electronic wizardry built in to it... I'm more familiar with 405TD rather than 306..

i forgot my code once on my XM (going back about 7 years) and had it towed to the garage, they phonce uk Citroen HQ UK, and within about 15 minutes they had an override code that they entered and this seemed to reset the code to default of 0000,
You have to take all your documents with you to prove ownership and who you are, but they should be able to override the code i would have though (same keypad as peugeots)

The stop solenoid contains an immobiliser relay which prevents you feeding it direct. I believe there is a metal security plate which needs to be removed to bypass it.

Yes you can overide the imobiliser code & reset it, Im very surprised they had to ring Citroen to find out how???
Nearly every Citroen / Peugeot / Renault technician knows how to do this & will take you less then 45 seconds to do.

The STOP relay you are looking for is located on the fuel pump behind a steel plate that has to be removed first.
The Peugeot Technician wouldnt show me how he did it, Only I knew the code to my car for a fact & I was shocked at how easy it was bypassed in under 45 seconds.
All I know is you need the ignition key & you have to press buttons in a certain order to bypass it, It will reset to 0000 when its been done.
