Hi all, I have a ds5 that had its timing belt replaced at 60k miles (2020)from previous owner (have the paperwork from previous owner) it's now currently on 95k miles.
Noticed a very loud squeaking on cold startup this evening (albeit it has been very cold approx -1 where I am, and I noticed inside the engine it was wet from having the car washed earlier in the day.
Surely I would not need a new timing belt only 35k miles or so after it was replaced?
I have attached a video of the squeaking and also attached a short still video of the belt to see if any experts here know if it looks like it needs replacing? As I have no idea what I'm looking for.
Thanks

Re: Squeaking timing belt
That is not the timing belt, it is the auxilliary belt. A little squeaking like that is normal if the belt gets wet, but if it doesn't go away then the belt is probably contaminated and should be replaced.

Are these auxiliary belts expensive to replace? I'll see if it goes away, I'm guessing it's because of the cold wet weather and the fact I think some water got in there from a car wash earlier in the day.

Re: Squeaking timing belt
The auxilliary belt should not be expensive to replace, a garage should be able to do it in 15 minutes, assuming that no problem is found with the idler wheels and tensioner (I don't see any reason to suspect those in your case). It can be a DIY job, but you will need to research what tools are required to release the belt tensioner.

Re: Squeaking timing belt
If you can get your hands to the aux belt and its tensioner the belt only takes a few minutes to replace so if paying it should not cost too much in labour. I have no idea of how old your car is or what engine it has (edit - noticed it is a diesel DV6 so 1.6 hdi) but the tensioner pulley should be checked and sometimes the tensioner can need replacing. One of our cars I think had a recall on the tensioner, possibly the Cactus or one of the C4s but not sure since it was a few years ago.

Re: Squeaking timing belt
Sometimes this may caused by free-clutch inside alternator belt-wheel (if on that model). Indicator of that sometimes shaking tensioner as shown in 1st video. Of course, tensioner itself me cause that also.
