Nemo 1.4hdi Weighted shift rod question

Unread post by rovingpaddy »

If anyone out there could help with this it would be great.

I'm after doing a gearbox rebuild and clutch change recently, everything went well, everything back in the car and bolted up. Done roughly 1000 miles in it now. Now within the last say 100 ish miles the car has developed a knocking sound, sounds like something tapping against the body/chassis.

I've been back under the car, spanner checked everything - all seems tight. Got the crowbar out to see if there's play anywhere (bare in mind I changed the NS drop link and ball joint at the same time as the other works, as they weren't looking great) and no obvious play. This is with wheels on and off, up in the air and under it's own weight. It doesn't matter what I prod or lever I cannot replicate this knocking noise as I drive out of my street.

What I had noticed is that the weight that is on the gearbox shift mechanism can be wiggled up and down. While doing this, a noise not unlike what I'm hearing in the cabin is emitted, so my question is, Is the weight meant to be loose or should it have no play in it at all?

Also to note the play is up and down on the weight and the bolt securing it has never been undone by me, but it is also tight.

This noise is driving me insane, if I can tick this off the list of possible sources I can sleep slightly better at night.

Patrick.
