2012, citroen c4

Unread post by Aussie paul »

Hello all, needing help. First up I know nothing about citroen, Just bought a 2012 c4 from a friend in New South Wales 230000km on clock, diesel engine, 6 speed electronic transmission, electric park brake, RHD. When driving it back home to Queensland ( about 600k into the drive) the ESP/ASR system fault, have vehicle repaired, parking brake fault, have the vehicle repaired, engine fault. Anti roll back system fault came up on display.
Service light on dash, also auto park brake light on, esp light, and the engine light. Car went into limp mode.
All I've found online so far suggests either a break in the wires going to the abs sensors on the rear wheels, ( checked, cleaned with contact cleaner, no break in wiring . Or faulty abs sensors, unchecked as dont know how but did spray them) I'm about 2000ks from a citroen dealer so any help would be appreciated, cheers Paul

Hi Paul - any fault with the ESP / ABS system will cause all these other faults and warnings as it's integral to these other systems including the EPB. A faulty wheel speed sensor will do it, but you really need a diagnostic to determine which, if any, of the wheel speed sensors is causing the problem. Any decent garage should at least have a diagnostic tool that should be able to advise on the issue for you.

Ok thanks for that, I'll have to try to get someone to come to me as now the car wont start properly and after many times cranking it and it finally tries to fire up it sounds to be only trying on 1 or 2 cylinders and very loud knocking with a smell of raw fuel.
If it turns out to be a wheel sensor as you suggest is it something I can change out at home, ( save the cost of towing, probably cost more than car is worth) and would the starting issue go away as well. Thanks Paul

Not sure that will have anything to do with the engine knocking / fuel smell though - that's a whole new kettle of fish, so definitely needs a diagnostic.

I was thinking along the line of the engine being derated/limp mode it maybe was connected somehow, well I'm hoping it is!

I forgot to mention the afternoon I got home I disconnected the battery in the hope it would clear the codes,  engine was running fine then. The next day I reconnected the battery and thats when I had the start/run issues. Is there a security code or something I should have entered before starting, do they have such a thing?

No, there's no code but follow this guide whenever you disconnect the battery as it can solve electrical issues and also shows how to reinitialise the fobs, or you'll get immobiliser issues:

BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure
