Hi,
I have had an issue with high crank pressure on start up on my 2007 Boxer, with 2.2 puma engine, The first time, from a cold start, I pulled out of my drive and the oil light came on, I drove 200 meters to pull over, added more oil started it and oil light came on, so I shut it down, when I looked under the van it had cracked the plastic oil filter housing.
I replaced the housing but found the engine had seized, we took the engine out and removed the sump frame and crank and found no.3 had spun on the crank.
Cant believe it got that hot so quick as to seize the crank?
Took the crank off and All the pistons and linings looked good and had good compression, so we bought a new CRANK AND BEARINGS, OIL PUMP, TIMING GEAR ETC, I started the van and it ran smooth, no knocking smoking rattling etc, no leaks and no crank pressure in the valve cover. I drove it all day, stopping and starting with no issues, no warning lights, no fault codes. The next day I started it up and saw the oil light stay on, switched it off, and saw that the new plastic cover had cracked and oil on the ground! it was not overtightened, the oil is correct, there is no fuel or water in the oil,
I understand that the only thing that regulates the crank pressure is the pump and pressure valve. Not sure why this would happen twice from cold, I know cold oil is thicker but should not create that amount of high pressure
Any Ideas on what the cause would be? I have ordered a filter housing canister upgrade kit, and a crank pressure test valve to see how much pressure is there on start up,
any help would be appreciated
