DS5 2.0HDI mystery rubber part

Unread post by heiluri »

Hi all!

My car is DS DS5 2.0 BlueHDI year model being 2016.

Left to work this morning and when starting my car it had a loud whining and churning noise. Thought it would be because of the high humidity this morning so I drove about 200 meters, the noise was still there and then smoke started coming out of the engine compartment. Turned off the car and popped up the hood. Spotted this mystery piece between engine frame and auxiliary belt. The belt had grinded into the rubber piece making it melt and smoke. Pulled out the piece and started the car, the noise was gone, phew!

Any idea what this piece is and where it is from? Looks like a protective cap for something, but what... Couldn't find a place where it has loosened from.

Thanks for your help!

I think it's a cap from the crank pulley - quite probable the pulley is breaking up hence this has fallen out.

Uhh, I don't like the sound of that...

Is it possible that it could have been placed badly after the auxiliary belt replacement and now got loosened? I don't really see any misbehaviour with the belt, alternator and so on.

Oh wow! I sure do hope it has just slipped out.

I guess the only way to access the crank pulley is from below or removing front wheel and fender plastics? Looking from the top it's impossible to get there with hands.
