307cc speedo swap

Unread post by Expertamateur »

Hi guys, I'm back again. Early days getting used to the new ride. 2006 307cc (petrol). So far my main gripe is the speedo. White with black numbers it is not easy to see, day or night. It's a RHD and I live in France so the kilometer numbers on the inner ring are much smaller than the MPH ones. I have noticed on ebay some s/h instrument clusters from LHD cars look like they would fit and have a black background with white numbers and they have only large kilometer numbers. One of these would be much easier to see. I would like to just buy a kilometers cluster and do a swap. Is this likely to be possible or would the new cluster have to be matched to a lot of other components to work properly? As a last resort I will have to get some red sticky tape and cut some markers to stick on the face at the most common speed limit points, ie. 50, 70, 80, 90, and 110kmh. Speed limit cameras are a real plague here and very expensive fines even in the middle of rural nowhere.

I must say, this is bad news for me. Most of the Kilometres speedos I find are on French ebay, and very few of them state the readings from the car they were taken from, there seems to be at least a dozen variants of engine and horsepowers, plus manual and automatic to double the number of variants. So on top of wasting up to €200 buying a used cluster that might not work, I also run the risk of bricking the car into the bargain.

Many thanks to you for making me aware of this information. I will just play safe and get some stickers to enlarge the KM speed limits on the clock face so I can see them more easily.

This sort of thing reinforces my hatred of modern high tech cars that mere mortals can no longer repair easily.

You have struck gold there my friend. The source that does replacement dials is just what I need. No gambling on finding exactly the right display unit from a secondhand source and no faffing about with upsetting the onboard systems. ~All I need is the numbers changed and they show one in black with just large Kmh numbers which will be much easier to see. I don't care about it not having Mph numbers as I have no intention of taking it back to UK. Many thanks for the link.

Actually it didn't. They seem to offer very good products but they don't do one for my model. I'm back to hand cutting bits of sticky back vinyl onto my speedo to emphasize the common Km speed limits. But I still appreciate you posting the link.
