I would try manually moving the mirror through its full travel, and then back into the 'normal' position, making sure it latches in place. It is possible that somebody knocked it (maybe as they walked past), and then did not move it back to the correct position. Once that has been done see if it folds as it should.

Is there any noise coming from the mirror when you try to fold it? Secondly, does the actual mirror position motor work?

If the foldback motor noise it heard then it probably has come out of position. Manually move it to the closed position and then try locking and unlocking the car several times to allow it to recalibrate the position. If no motor noise is heard, try a BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure. If that has no effect then you may have a faulty wire either in the door aperture where the loom enters the door from the A pillar (remove the protective grommet and check for breaks - this is a weak point form constantly opening and closing the door which can weaken or break the wires), failing that it may be one of the electrical connectors that is attached underside of the door and electric window control panel. These can sometimes work loose from slamming the door shut. Happened to me several times - the connector was not secured in position.
