C4 Picasso 2014. Buying.

Unread post by seanrx »

For the owners of the Picasso's, 2014 onwards.

The C4 type, is it a car worth to buy used? The 2.0L diesel manual. 90,000 miles.

Any known faults and is the bsi reset still required on this generation of car?

I did own a C5 facelift petrol, but am looking at a shorter car that still feels big with good load space.

My old C5, no engine problems at all, (no turbo)Plenty of faults with rest of the car though!

But really, I don't want all the niggling problems of previous generations of Citroen.

My other choice is a Honda Civic.

Pre 2017 cars suffer from the screens breaking down - dots appear on them. Wires to rear ABS sensors and the handbrake motors can run through and cause problems. They have a bit of an appetite for front suspension components. Wires can break in the mirrors. Clutch master cylinder prone to breaking. 2014 will be due cambelt; and at 90k clutch might be nearing end of life.

I have recently bought a 2 ltr 2015 C4 Picasso [had a C5 estate before] & am very pleased with it. Plenty of room & goes well.
Has a starship dash that takes a bit of fathoming out & can send false alerts sometimes.
A new cambelt & water pump just cost me £500. Also had a broken front spring that needed replacing but pot holes around here probably the cause.

Thanks for replying.

I have been checking the C4 screen. All car functions are from it?
Will have to think on this. How much failure would be an MOT fail?

But the problems described, could be from any car brand.
I've just been reading up Honda's Civic piston ring failure and excessive oil use and poor build quality on Toyota's. Oddly, both at about ten yrs old.

In my town there are a few 1.6 Picassos. The 2.0L I have to train/bus 30 miles.
So dealer distance will really decide my choice and possibly Lexia reader availability.
A Peugeot dealer is in my town, but no Citroen.

Pentagon in Lincoln (Tritton Road) was a Citroen dealer but changed to Peugeot. They still service Citroens and sell Citroen parts. We have been using them since 2016 and are happy with them.

Check the carpets are not wet since they can suffer water ingress due to blocked drains.
