Sinkers, how many left??

Unread post by AssortedFrenchTat »

I believe I'm missing two roadworthy examples from my register, a silver and white according to howrareismycar. Possibly others, too!

How many sinkers do we have on here, and how old? ORGA/RP numbers massively appreciated! Especially if it's one I don't already have, roadworthy or no! Trying to beat L68 PAH for oldest spot!

The list so far:
L68 PAH 6027 (road legal, broken)
L908 BPA 6036 (undergoing resto)
L472 TGF 6043 (I believe off the road for winter)
K229 DNK 6050 (daily driver)
L936 HHD 6065 (on the road)
L730 MAV 6066 (on the road)
L356 KTW 6072 (on the road)
L449 JFL 6086 (sadly being broken for parts)
L305 BDF 6190 (under resto still I think??)
L873 JPP 6203 (no idea, SORN I believe)
L317 WHR 6203 (on the road, newest confirmed sinker I have)

Excellent!!! That's my breakfast reading sorted! Hoping to make a thread for mine at some point, it's waiting on some parts currently so I can put the engine back together oops

Awesome! I saw L356 KTW at FOTU last year, and parts of L449 JFL are living on in my sinker! Namely the lil roof panel with the IR receiver and the rear ashtray

Excellent! I suspect howrareismycar isn't very accurate then, as that's three reds, three blues, and a beige all definitely on the road according to my most recent checks, and howrareismycar insists it's one red, two blues, a silver, beige and a white 🤔 might have to run the checks on my list again! I imagine one of the blue diesels has come off the road for winter, because the lone blue petrol is on my driveway still taxed and insured despite being in pieces currently 😅

Edit: HHD is registered in 94, so doesn't show in my check for 93 Xantias. There's a fourth blue out there somewhere that's just been taken off the road for winter! Very exciting!

Howmanyleft says there are 9 taxed / 88 SORN for '93 and 22 taxed / 225 SORN for '94 (not of all of which may be sinkers of course).

And just 373 left on the road in total - from a peak of 130,000 in 2000!!

That's a lot to track down still! I think I'm at about 180 cars in total, a few scrapped, many SORNed, but still plenty on the road. Mad how little there are in comparison to 2000 though! My main interest is the sinkers because I impulse bought one earlier in the year after it came up cheap and I'd been wanting a Xantia since my partner bought an S2 Activa last summer. It's a cracking old thing, though it's got an excessive oil leak currently! I was putting in a litre a day just driving it to work and back, so it's now off the road while I investigate 😬thought it was the rocker gasket, it's not, so I'm expecting head or oil pressure switch now but I'm also waiting on parts to put it back together before I can check. I really need to start my own build thread for it!

JFL lived quite a while, I found a few photos from 2014 when I first brought it home.

I'm increasingly beginning to regret selling KTW now. It's still running my special modified height corrector linkages with rose joints and roller bearings. I'd be keen to ask Calum how the car is running after a few years.

I -might- even rejoin the citroen car club...

Mad! It lived a good life I'm sure, at least until the rust set in, poor thing.

Oh cool! I'll admit that's mostly greek to me, but I imagine it's all stuff that makes a difference. Only been in the xantia scene myself since July! Defo worth the ask, too! It seemed to be doing well when I saw it in August.

You know you wanna! Haven't seen many sinkers at events, mind you. Mine's made it to one, the singular K reg has been at a few. Poor guy was slightly crestfallen to learn that not only is it not the oldest surviving Xantia, it's not even in the top three. Oops!

Just for the record, my first Xantia was a Sinker. A Mondial Blue 1.9TD L229 CPE.

Sadly, long gone according to DVLA who have no record of it.

I still have one of her number plates...
