Storm Bert !!!

Unread post by superloopy »

Thought we (I) had got away with the worseof this until i went out this morning to be greeted with my Activa, which admittedly WAS a bit close to the house on the drive, where an eaves tile had taken out the whole rear windscreen, oh b*gger !

So, despite it being a non runner i still have a fondness for all things Activa and will need to source a replacement after xmas now.

But how to protect her until then?

I'm assuming this should be fairly straightforward unless anyone knows any different. Have no idea whats involved or even who would do this on the drive?

The car is now under a couple of tarps but no doubt there's a fair bit of water and glass 'ingress' shall we say from the overnight shenanigans.

Lets look at that in the clear light of day, why do today what you can do tomorrow kinda mentallity ;>))

Anyone else have any problems from the weather and all advice gratefully received.

Thanks for that!

Looks like that should work once i've cleaned up the mess. The car isnt a runner and just needs to be secured, its under a tarp and a car cover but thats only showerproof. I'll pick a roll up tmro, cheers!

Just checked around ... £5-600 quidish for a rear screen, more than the cars value i reckon. But, ive had her for some years and wouldnt want to scrimp but means i'll be cutting back on Costas soon :-D

There's a full tailgate for £40 on Ebay but it's pickip only, shame. How big a job to fit i wonder?

A claim on a windscreen poilcy (yes, they cover the sides and back too) would sort that for less than £500. AGEAS still have a mere £60 excess on windscreen replacements.

It's a biggish one... All the wiring has to be treaded through it as there's no convenient connectors between the body and tailgate. Although for my money, the biggest issue is the weight of the thing...

Lots of strong muscled help will be needed...

I'm guessing we up here in the North East got away very lightly from the effects of the most recent storm Darragh but this one following on so quickly from Burt has meant my job to keep activa watertight has not been that successful! the fact that the car has leather interior makes things not quite as bad but i'm struggling o source replacement glass other than brand new at a cost of £500+ (no insurance, SORN'd). Anyone got any pointers at all? I'm guessing, given another storm is imminent and targetted up here, that it'll be another few weeks before i can get around to any remedial work. In the meantime i've got a large roll of, what is after all, glorified cling film alongwith a couple of heavier (earlier ones have long gone in the storms) full size car coversa and am hoping they'll keep the rain out in the meantime. Just an update.
