Hi all looking for help please. Have a citroen c3 picasso 2015 the is smokey under load. Had a p0401 code so removed egr valve cleaned it and checked it off the with 12v and it opens and shut. Have put it back car now and p0401 code has gone but have new code p0405, is a new egr valve required as don't know where to go with this now.

Re: Black smoke
Turbo oil feed pipe banjo bolt filters get clogged on these and can cause black smoke then turbo failure.

Re: Black smoke
How long have you had the car? Is this the first time it has been firing out black smoke? Let me have the VIN and I'll double check the codes as they relate to this engine. Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.Geosub wrote: ↑18 Nov 2024, 19:32 Hi all looking for help please. Re: Black smoke
Sorry been spending to much time at this car, put a secondhand egr valve on it and have no codes now but still smoke on acceleration. Re: Black smoke
Had the car a few years now but it doesn't go for just doing the school run so that won't help. Struggled with it's emissions last year at mot time

Re: Black smoke
Ok, so if there are no warnings and no fault codes, then it looks like the the DPF has become damaged or broken up as Richard said above.

Re: Black smoke
School runs kill cars. I used to walk 5 miles each way , started walking to school on my own whan i was 7 right till i left at 16. In all weathers , oh those were the days !
Smoke under load, id say dpf needs replacing or at least a good clean
Pipe work from intercoolers even intercooler being clogged can cause issues , once a yr at service time i start from intercooler right through strip & clean out & put it all back , dpf gets a flush either from cans or a back flush then a good 20 mile motorway blast, if you are lucky enough to have a diagnostic tool you can keep your eye on soot levels then have a good idea when to clean. Also fluid levels adblue or Eolys ive noticed my picasso will smoke when low on fuel a mechanic said it was the Eolys being used , how did he know , he worked on a car several years ago , he undid the sender bung on top of the tank and said there was a nice sticky stuff in the bottom of the tank which he removed , put fresh diesel in, ran the car up , no smoke.
If your turbo is ok the rule that out, if the intercooler & pipe work has never been touched id clean it your notice the difference , also check hoses too . Sometimes the o rings (oil seals) can go in the turbo oil get through then smoke , but this smoke isnt black . Correct me if im wrong anyone,
