AX - original radio?

Unread post by Jaf »

Anyone have any info on the radio? Make or a photo would really help.

I'm looking into putting the car onto Historic number plates. Apparently here in Spain even the radio must be original. She does have a cassette player, but it's not the original. Must say I'm not really sure what original really means, they can't expect actually original, but perhaps same as factory made.

Thanks!

There are a few variants, a google image search will show plenty of pics.
How would they really know if it was an original?
How about removing it & fitting a blank to get the plates, just say it never came with one.
Sounds a bit ridiculous to be honest.

It does although the blanking panel is a great idea Wheeler! My Strawberry has one as she was never originally supplied with a radio.

My Bluebell has her original. A Blaupunkt Bristol 27.

Or what about remember in the late 90’s you could get fake heater vents that clipped over the top of your car stereo to hide it.😂
Been googling them for the last 10 minutes but can’t for the like of me find them, nearly every car spares shop used to sell them.

Gosh, I don't remember those and I was in the motor trade back then.
Are you sure you didn't dream them up? :rofl2:

This is the best i could find, this one is for a double DIN version but there was a single DIN sized type that actual looked a bit more like real heater vents.

Thanks fellas. Been talking to someone on a local group about this. By some mad coincidence they were thinking about Historic plates for their car...an Ax! They gave up as the rules were too strict, but supposedly the rules have been loosened. Unlike the UK there's not just an age requirement, the car had to be rare or somehow important culturally. Supposedly the rare part has been removed, the car just has to be 30, and original. I'm planning on going to the next classic car meet near here, see what I can find out.

I've looked at photos online and see a few have Citroen printed on the cassette flap. I wonder if that would look right enough.

Of course my Gwin is not rare, but it would be really funny, to me anyway, to have Historic plates. Plus it would occasionally be handy to be allowed in the smog zones. I don't have any compliant vehicles, and you can't just pay a fee.

If I manage this then I'm planning on Fred, my Xantia, getting Historic plates too! In only 4 years!

Here in the UK we have to wait until the car is 40...

Definitely the latter ;) An AX is a true cultural icon :D
