I'm putting a Berlingo engine into my Talbot motorhome and can't get my scanner to talk to the ecu yet. I have all the looms and fuse boxes/bsi installed and have found 2 plugs with these wires but nothing to plug into them. I'm assuming the CAN wires work on a loop so these are breaking the loop if that makes sense?

Berlingo wiring for engine conversion
Can anyone tell me if these curly wires are part of the CAN system please?

Re: Berlingo wiring for engine conversion
Yes, twisted pair wires are CAN data network connections. The BSI is usually the controlling master computer that sends data out encoded for any of the intended receiving ECUs. The data networks will have different types of speed and are usually split into different circuits, separating critical systems from comfort systems for example.
So the engine management system for one engine type will be different to another EMS from another engine and why there are specific Engine ECUs for specific engines.

Thanks for clarification.
I have the correct ecu. I had a complete vehicle as a donor but I've made an error and scrapped bits i needed. I'll go find the missing parts then hopefully it will run

Re: Berlingo wiring for engine conversion
Well technically these ones are VAN wires & the connector in your hand is the power supply connector for the radio. These are on the comfort VAN so not being connected will not prevent the engine starting or getting comms with the engine ECU.
Also it can't be assumed that just because they are twisted pairs they are CAN or VAN data wires, There are a few other places on PSA vehicle wiring where twisted pairs are used like fuel injector wiring or some parts of the airbag circuits.

Re: Berlingo wiring for engine conversion
Twisted pair wiring just reduces electromagnetic interference so is typically used in data comms.
