Reversing up hill
My car doesn’t seem to like it. Parking around where I live is often difficult, and I often have to make do with a space in the side road which runs off our main road, but opposite the house. Problem is, it’s quite a steep hill. Trying to parallel park while facing down the hill usually creates a rhythmic pulsating whirring noise, and the smell of warm clutch plate. Car is only 15 months old, and the first owner had it as a disability car. I’ve been driving since 1968, and never had any previous clutch issues. But it is concerning me. Normal driving or reversing on the flat is no problem.

Re: Reversing up hill
Any clutch slip or being held at biting point is going to reduce the life of the clutch and it really needs to get to fully released position as soon as possible to prevent this. If parking on a steep slope is going to be the norm rather than the exception, I'd expect you will be needing a new clutch and or Dual Mass Flywheel much sooner.

Re: Reversing up hill
It may only be 15 months old but it may have been a hard 15 months.
Ive seen rental cars with less than 2000 miles with cooked clutches.
Motability cars are well known for getting heavily abused to, half the time the person who leases the car has never even sat in it & it’s their 18 year old grandson (AKA the wheelspin king) that is using it.
Wouldn’t touch an ex rental/motabillity vehicle with a barge pole.

Re: Reversing up hill
So what would be a ballpark figure for clutch replacement?
