Peugeot 206 ECU/immobiliser
Hoping someone may be able to help. I’ve got my hands on a very clean 205 1.1GL. It’s actually quite peppy for the engine size but I would like to modernise it slightly. The easiest option would appear to be a Saxo 1.1 engine as the immobiliser is so ridiculously easy to delete, and this may be the way I go but what I’d really like is an all alloy 1360 from a 206 complete with injection. I know the 206 changed to multiplex around 2001 but please does anyone know if the earlier cars have a simple immobiliser set up like the Saxo? Many thanks, Phil.

Re: Peugeot 206 ECU/immobiliser
What's the fuelling arrangements on your current 205 engine Phil?
If it's early enough to still be on a carburettor you'd be best off sourcing a 1360 engine with a carb. That will save a lot of work trying to plumb in an ECU and a fuel pump for the injection system. And arguably, the carb'd engines go rather well and in my experience, they're livelier and sparkler than engines with the early injection systems and cats.
Trying to use an injection/ignition system that was originally in a multiplexed vehicle will be quite a challenge. I believe the only real way to disable the immobiliser in such a system is to hand the ECU over to specialists who can modify the ECU software to program it out...
I'll be watching this with interest...

Re: Peugeot 206 ECU/immobiliser
Hiya Jim,
Currently on a carburettor. We all have different ideas and a big part of going with injection is to make the car run cleaner, carbon footprint and all that. There's no way I'm taking on a multiplex engine but my research says that it didn't come in until 2001 so I'm wondering what the earlier set up was? Most likely outcome will be an injected Saxo 1100 as the imobiliser can be deleted just by unplugging it with the engine running!

Re: Peugeot 206 ECU/immobiliser
I had an 1.1i Saxo with single-point injection (of the sort with the keypad) and for a long time it shared garage space with my AX11 which has the same engine with a carburettor. The performance between the two was substantially different with the carburettor-equipped AX much livelier and eager.
The carb'd TU engine runs very cleanly so emissions are, in my view, irrelevant. Both mine achieve emissions figures very close to what you'd expect from a injected engine with a cat.
And there's a lot less to go wrong with a carb'd engine!

You’ve kinda made my day there Jim, many thanks. What you’re saying is exactly what was at the back of my mind, I’ll keep the carb’s engine and enjoy it for what it is.

Re: Peugeot 206 ECU/immobiliser
That's excellent Phil
Having had both and also often driving a Series 1 954 AX with carb. and a Series 2 954 AX with Single Point injection, sometimes back-to-back, I would hate for you to do all the work and then being a bit disappointed with the result...
The original single-point injection was not that good and is prone to tricky throttle pot issues that are not easy to resolve.
The later multi-point injection is much better but as said, the installation of it, especially in what was originally a carb'd car, is quite an undertaking.
Do enjoy the 205! I love 'em and have had a few in the past
