F4R Engine crankshaft cover plate replacement query

Hi, I have a long standing issue of leaking oil from somewhere on the timing belt side. Having replaced all the seal apart from crankshaft seal.
Im assuming the leak is coming from the crankshaft seal or the cover plate, so Ive got a new cover plate and seal to put in.
If there s anyone thats done this job before could they advise me as wether I need to reomove or loossen the sump as well to put the plate on. Im hoping I coulod just leave the sump on while replacing the crankshaft cover plate.
