The dreaded temperature stop engine fault

Unread post by Andywal »

Hello,
Thank you for allowing me to join the forum.
I am Andy living on the Isle of Skye and my wife drives a 2013 ds3 dstyle 1.6 petrol with 48000 on the lock.
We suddenly had the temperature alarm with 'Stop engine's warning fault up.
Everything seems ok temperature wise with water levels all ok.
The MOT was 3 days ok and it passed without any problems.
I have researched the fault and have a P0016 code error coolant temperature sensor.
My questions if anyone can help are:
How do I tell if mine is the type of sensor fitted withing the thermostat housing.
I can see a sensor looking down and underneath and see a visible sensor going in to the housing which I could change easily but I am not sure if this is the correct one.
I have attached a photo if someone could possibly advise?
The fault comes on and off at irregular intervals but the car runs fine so I am a bit confused.
I appreciate any help anyone can offer because looking at some of the costs to get the housing replaced look very expensive.
Kind regards
Andy

Before replacing any parts I would use your code reader to look at the live data to see what temperature it thinks it is at. Then if it is not realistic it may suggest the sensor or its connector or wiring are at fault.
A search on P0016 comes back with the crank shaft and cam shaft sensors not matching so you may have written the wrong code down since this would not give a temperature warning.

Hi Paul
Many thanks for your reply.
You are quite correct,I have put wrong code like an idiot.
The code is P0116.
Not a good start from me.
Thanks for pointing that out

You could put in a parts request here along with your VIN but first you need to donate £10 to the forum which gives 2 years support with parts numbers and other things which the forum has to pay for to access. If you use the forum £10 is excellent value.

Admin Note: Actually We've just extended this for up to 3 calendar years now Paul, so even better value (obviously the earlier in the calendar year you join, the longer you get).
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.
