Can phone out but not receive calls??

Unread post by moizeau »

For a while now I've had a problem with my 407 not receiving calls. It's odd. The phone is paired, if someone rings me the car rings. When I accept the call nothing comes through the car and reverts to the phone. I can ring out though via the car. Tried with various phones, all Android. My nipper tried with his when he was here, same. I've got a very old Nokia I could try (non smart but with Bluetooth ) that used to work but my sim is the wrong size. My nipper did some research (he works in coding etc.) and says this issue started around March ish (which is about right for me) according to Google and is due to a 'permissions' setting on the phone following an Android update.
Anyone else had this? It's not a massive issue but I would like it to work again.
Cheers

This can happen when they update the Android OS (and with other phone OS systems too) - they can update the bluetooth protocols and software, which is all good and great as they are supposed to be backward compatible, so it's likely that your phone's update has upset the connection.

It's a pain, but really the only way to attempt to correct this is twofold:

Completely remove the Bluetooth phone connection to the car from the phone.
Reset the phone's network settings and restart (hard boot the phone).

Whilst this is happening, delete the phone from the vehicle (the pairing and the phone, so it is completely gone).
Do a BSI reset (BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure) and leave the vehicle disconnected for at least 10 minutes to ensure the head unit restarts.

On the Phone, after it has restarted, go through and enable Bluetooth and attempt to create the connection to the car again, paying particular attention to any messages on your phone regarding privacy, as you can often miss these messages. Make sure you allow access to contacts and other data required on the phone if asked. Make sure you select the correct Bluetooth Profile if offered this.

Hopefully it will reconnect and will have cleared any bugs. Be warned that it may take a while for the vehicle to rebuild a contact list from your phone, so make sure you keep the vehicle's engine running whilst it does this - ditto for any playlists.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

Thanks for the reply Marc. I have carried out most of what you've mentioned previously but possibly not in the right order. I think I'll ask a mate who's got an old phone with the correct size sim card for my old Nokia which worked before I have to backing up the phone then start re deleting the bloatware cobblers.
