Can someone identify the year for this DS

Unread post by anotherlab »

I was in Assisi (IT) about a week ago and wandered by a wedding that was just getting out of a church. There was a DS parked outside, intended for the bride and groom to head off in. I don't know much about the Citroën DS, but this car was in great condition. I took a few pictures of it. This is one of them. Can anyone tell me what the year was for that model? I'm guessing it's circa 1971, but it's a guess.

thanks in advance,
Chris

Can't say with any accuracy but they were made from 1055 to 1975 so your guess could be about right.
My dad worked for a bloke who had one that was pretty much the talk of the town where we lived and this was in the late fifties/early sixties.
Dad was an engineer and was very impressed with it.

It does have a distinguishing feature the round orange indicator on the front wing. These I have seen on the Citroen D Special model of various years 1972-1975. This is an example of a 1974 car

Blimey, that's one hell of a production run. Citroen really were ahead of their time. I bet William the Conqueror had one :-D

Ooops
There was a forum (NADS) where if you were quoted in an error you were not permitted to go back and change it. I suppose I will let it stand.
Shame I can't blame autobubberitup.

It may just be an Italian thing the round indicator of the front wing. This is a DS23 Pallas with the round indicator on the wing from 1973 and from Italy. The wedding car is probably more likely to be one of these and indeed the second pic is of a wedding hire car from Cesena Italy, a DS Pallas in white.

..and in interesting-ish trivia Italian regulations did require (still require? ) side-repeaters.

Thank you everyone for the quick responses.

The color of this one is wrong, but I found a website https://www.slowhills.com/en/vintage-ca ... ds-pallas/ with a DS Pallas for wedding hires with a picture taken at the same church, the Cathedral of San Rufino.

[Edit] That's a different church. My picture in the OP was at the Cathedral of San Rufino.

One last clue, I just grabbed the pictures from my camera. A picture from the back of the car. I don't know what the rules are for this forum, so I blurred out the license plate.

License plates are OK but no personal details like phone numbers or email addresses.

Members can contact one another using the PM system.

If you want to put your VIN up, that is OK as long as there are no spaces in it, the forum software masks the VIN and only staff can see it.

Was gonna say, it's a shame Harold Godwinson never had any. Would have been handy for the trip down from Stamford Bridge to Hastings.

In the end his troops did it all on foot and we lost.

As a DSuper5 according to this the production run was from August 1972 to January 1975. The side repeater as mentioned is an Italian regulation, and the clear sidelight of your photographed one is different to the 1974 model shown in the webpage here.

https://www.citromuseum.com/1/visite/visiteds/dsuper-5/

1973 example from Italy has the clear sidelight and round orange side-repeater on the wing
