New Member, New Car, New Questions (For me, at least)

Greetings All!

New member here, and my first foray into the realm of les anciennes voitures francaises with the recent purchase and impending delivery of a quite adorable 1998 Peugeot 306 Cabrio, Right-hand drive, of course, Because....well, just because. This one was imported to the States under the "25 Year Rule" so, I guess that it came from Britain, somewhere, or Japan, being RHD. It's going to take some getting used to, I suppose. Actually, I've been wrenching on various British and German Iron, being presently in possession of two very nice MGs....a 1979 B Tourer ("Leila"), and a 1968 MGB-GT ("Aura"). Then there's my 1982 VW Rabbit Convertible ("Nimbus"), which is a really nice driver, presently in need of a couple of parts to get her 100%. Well, I saw this 306 sitting in the back of a local dealer's lot, and fell in love. They're cleaning her up for me now, and I expect to take delivery any day now....especially since I've already paid for her.

Anyway, my plan is to deliver her to my local mechanic (whose shop just happens to be right net door to the seller's lot) and have him do what I ask him to do to all my new purchases: Give her a good look-over, and do a complete fluid bleed-out and exchange. He'll be the one maintaining her for the major work, in the future, but for now, he's tasked with giving her the 'Green Light'.

So, what I'm leading to is, due to the fact that she doesn't come with an Owner's Manual, I'm asking the members for some guidance as to what I'll need to collect to deliver my mechanic, along with the 306. Most specifically, your recommendations, please for the following:

-Oil Filter
-Oil weight, and amount for a complete oil change
-Air Filter, if there are any brands that can substitute for the factory AF
-Recommended Octane for the fuel (gasoline)
-Transmission filter (automatic)
-Recommended Spark plug configuration and brand
-Brake Fluid 'weight' (as in DOT2, DOT3, DOT4 or Silicone) and acceptable brand
-Recommended coolant (Standard Green? Euro Blue? GM Red? Something else?)

And the, as if this weren't enough, can you lead me in the direction of suppliers for the soon-to-fail rubber parts such as the valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, and all of the various coolant hoses that will eventually need to be replaced? I'd like to have them on hand for use, especially if I have to source them from far and away.

Seems you`re located in US. Then you should be able to have access to A94 lead free fuel. That should do the job.
As for the rest of your questions:

-Oil Filter > any brand will be just fine. Bosch and MAN make similar what the original ones are
- Oil weight, and amount for a complete oil change > Depend of the engine. If that is with 2.0L maybe about 4.5L (no idea how much that is in gallons or other imperial units..)
- Air Filter, if there are any brands that can substitute for the factory AF > absolute any that you find in ebay. That do not require K&N or some very special..
- Transmission filter (automatic) -> well..never used automatic gear box so can`t elaborate on it..
- Recommended Spark plug configuration and brand -> NGK or DENSO. Originally should be Equem otr Bosch but skip that
- Brake Fluid 'weight' (as in DOT2, DOT3, DOT4 or Silicone) and acceptable brand -> Any brand with specs DOT4 up to 5+ is fine. No silicone, blue racing one or any high tech $hit is required
- Recommended coolant (Standard Green? Euro Blue? GM Red? Something else?) -> G13 from any EU brand. But in case you flush the whole system properly GM Red will work too. There are also orange and yellow types at least here..

Motor oil Castrol 5w30 ACEA C3 will work great on it as any Valvoline, ELF, Shell but of course better will be Total Quartz if you can get one..

You can make registration in service.citroen.com and against small fee will have access to parts catalogue by VIN. Then you can get right info straight from the source..
