Insurance Claim

Unread post by dave »

Not sure if I'm posting in the correct area

I have 23 plate "Berlingo" van which has been involved in minor bump , its drivable but you are unable to open the passenger door, the flapping bumper & a wonky headlight probably mean the vehicle should not be on road ?

The bodyshop are a bit unless & are unable to start the repair without a bumper is which is "in france" I have been waiting 7 weeks so far

aviva are unless I'm still waiting (3 days) for reply to the last email I where asked them to send someone to come & view the van with a view to offering a financial settlement (pay me the cost of repair & have have it done in day)

Tomorrow I'm intending to ring the broker & explain my problems...

Anyone got any advice to offer ?

Probably shouldn't be on the road if it has loose bodywork or a misaligned light for obvious reasons, but as for insurance, I'm afraid it's as and when they get round to assessing it I'm afraid - all you can do is chase them up - by phone preferably.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

The delay in getting parts is entirely normal these days and is causing issues with a lot of repairs. The repairers don't like it either if they're responsible for providing a courtesy car.
It's difficult to say without seeing your van, but if the bumper can be attached securely (cable ties, metal straps ?) and not look like a bad repair then that would be ok as a temporary fix. The wobbly headlight isn't good, it needs to be secure and aimed correctly to be on the road. You could get away with the passenger door not working in the short term as long as you don't have anyone sitting on that side.
It's also perfectly acceptable these days for repairers to fit second hand parts, the issue comes that it may be a lot more work for them to source a good condition bumper and then bring it up to an acceptable condition bumper before they fit it. You could ask the repairers if they'd be willing to source and fit a second hand one - some will, some won't.
If your insurance allows for a courtesy car then you could pursue that avenue.

The bumper is currently due tomorrow, I don't expect it to turn up

The only people in this sh1t show which have been able to answer the phone are the broker (mini fleet policy)

A pattern part is next day from UK stock, I can have a complete 23 van in white with rear end damage next day

A pre van is 20k
