I'm in the process of repairing the engine on quite a nice 2005 Megane hatch 1.4 16v. The further in I get, the worse things are. The self-adjusting tappets are mostly seized, with the rocker arms loose and meandering around inside the valve cover, consequently the lobes are scored, and a valve is wedged open with a rocker. Underneath, the bearing rings are ALL shot.
I'm at the point where I think it would be sensible to replace the engine, which I'm not against. It is mostly disconnected at this point and won't take much effort to remove. My issue is that I am struggling to find a K4J730 1.4, and the last scrapyard I spoke to on eBay said that their K4J730 from the same car wouldn't work but gave no explanation. I'm sure it would have been fine to be honest.
For those who know more about these engines, is it possible to get away with a K4J740? What's the difference? I can not for the life of me find anything out about these engines. The 740s seem to be more plentiful so buying one of those would make my life easier.
