1.5 1.5 diesel bluehdi engine 7mm to 8mm timing chain upgrade.

Unread post by Pete i »

Hi all, next question.

I have a Citroen C4 Grand Spacetourer 2021 reg with the 1.5 bluehdi engine. Was the timing chain upgrade from 7mm to 8mm a recall or just something that I would have to have done myself assuming that it hasn't already been done on my engine. That leads on to my next question. Is there any way I could find out if my engine has a 7mm or a 8mm chain other than looking myself or if the upgrade was a recall if that, assumed, recall was done on my engine. My VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] and the engine number is Q3EG1133112.

TIA

Okay, this is not one of the easiest forums to negotiate I have to say, I couldn't find out how to edit my post. Anyway I did a search, should have done that first but hey ho, and it would seem that it isn't a recall as such and some alarming sounding criterea have to be met before Citroen will even consider replacing the chain. Pretty much par for the course in that respect for vehicle manufacturers.

That's correct - as not all vehicles seem to suffer, so yes, you have to wait until there are noises from the timing area and an investigation before any work will be done FOC by PSA.

I believe they have some additional cover in place, but any goodwill will depend on age, mileage and that servicing has been undertaken correctly and within the mileage or annually - whichever is first.

There's no upgrade as such, but where this has been done under warranty, it generally involves replacing extensively the cam parts including exhaust valves, depending on damage.

Vehicles from about late 2023have the 8mm chain fitted, but anything earlier will be 7mm. I have this engine too, but mine is fine at present. Also, I've confirmed you have, as expected, the 7mm chain from your VIN.
