Front Windscreen Washer

Unread post by garfield89 »

Hi,
I've been trying to figure out what could be causing the front windscreen washer from not working on my c3 Picasso.
The 10amp fuse is fine
The pump audibly works
The rear washer works, albeit seemingly at a low flow rate
Under the bonnet, I've pulled out the pipe from the first tee join, before branching off to the nozzles. There is no water flow from the pipe, leading me to think there is issues further down the pipe towards the pump.
Any suggestions?
Thank you

Pipe is blocked, reservoir is full of gunk, or the pump is knackered internally - you will need to get access to the pump to check for flow with the pipe removed.

Algal growth in the washer reservoir that bungs up the pump is quite common these days. If you've got a spare bit of hosepipe or similar then you could syphon out the reservoir into a bucket to check the condition of the washer fluid. It'll be alarmingly obvious if it has algae growing in it

I wonder if white vinegar/acetic acid would be a suitable additive to restrict algae growth.

Also, some of the pumps have a 'flapper valve' and the motor runs in two directions, one for the front and the opposite fro the rear screens and the flapper closes the other port. The valves can get a bit mangled or deteriorate with the algae.

Thanks
From what I've watched and read, this will most likely entail removing the front drivers side wheel to gain access.

Yes, at least the wheel and the arch liner; depending on exactly where the pump is you may need to remove the front bumper. I had to do this on my 3008 to get to the headlamp washer pump...
