Have to ask. What's a Sinker as I think I might have driven one?
I had a Xantia estate as my company car about 21 years ago so possibly a 1999/2000 model
It was deffo one of the nicest cars to drive but made me dizzy when I first acquired it as it rose up when engine started & I wasn't looking at the 'horizon'

A Sinker is an early Xantia without the rear 'accumulator' sphere (so only 5 spheres), which means that, overnight, the rear of the car usually drops a bit. Later Xantia had the extra sphere at the rear, and the car stayed level.

Known as a Mk1a...only produced for a few months (in the UK)....so only 1993 launch cars really I think.

There are (I am told) only 15 left in the UK....mine is (by those that record these things) the 9th oldest Xantia/4th oldest diesel remaining

That's my old Xantia! I had this from around 2014-16

Sold to a chap from (I think) Whitley Bay who was thrilled with it at the time. I bought it from a Citroen guy in Keighley. I named it 'Old Jeff'. Shame it has met its end but it has lasted quite well. It had a really good HP pump and had the loudest FDV hissing sound I ever heard.

O well, to the great car showroom in the sky :(

Old Jeff had an MOT up until June this year. 186k miles apparently. Around 144k miles when I had it so lasted fairly well over the years.

Wow Graeme, that's amazing it was your old car!

I saw Old Jeff at the scrapyard yesterday and I found KC Forrest a proper scrapyard and very friendly and helpful. They always keep older cars around for a while and make every effort to see off as any spares as they can before being finally crushed...

Old Jeff still has some good bits left and the yard tell me it's not due to be crushed any time yet...

Some more photos of Old Jeff can be found buried in this album here: https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjBJT5P

Might be worth getting the diesel pump. I recall this car ran very well indeed. Was quiet when warmed up and quite punchy. A previous keeper had wound out the fuelling screw. Wasn't me

I think I also rebuilt the front and rear height corrector cradles on this - replacing the pivots with bolts. It was a first attempt at modifying the pivots before I went all out on my next xantia Old Katy (yes there's a theme here ;) ) where I made housings to fit ceramic roller bearings for the pivots and replaced the plastic little link with a little rod with rose joints. That worked very well and Old Katy is still out there doing the rounds. Seen at the festival of the unexceptional and other meets. A very early sinker VSX in metallic Sable.

Sadly, the diesel pump has already gone Graeme :( To a person who is keen to run veg on a Transit I'm told...

That's a great mod to do on the height corrector cradles :)

Good pictures Jim, ha, seems the diesel pump is gone.

Engine run is sone state now - lots of black sludge. I see the high pressure pipe from the FDV to the prv had been replaced with a copper pipe with what looks like traces of solder on it...

It's funny looking at that engine bay brings back memories : I replaced all the battery leads and you can still see the red replacement one. There's a bracket over on the left that I cobbled together to mount an air horn. I now recall this car had an aftermarket boost gauge added by a previous owner and that on warm days on the motorway the pipe to or from the intercooler sometimes blew off due to the boost. I think a previous keeper possibly also wound out the screw on the turbo as well. Like I say, it was quite pokey for a simple mechanical XUD. This was also one of the cars my dad liked. We drove down together to collect it at the time. I think I have photos and videos of this car - might look them out for Old Times.
