Engine Fault - repair needed - But no Engine management light?

Hi all, I'm new to the forum, so apologies if this is something obvious, but I've looked on several forums and haven't seen anything quite like this.

So I've had my Peugeot 2008 (2015 model) for just under a year. Its on about 64k miles. The previous owner serviced it every year and it seems like they really looked after it, but the past couple of months I've had a couple issues. About 6 weeks ago I took it into the garage because there was a weird knocking noise which came from the front left when I've been driving for a long time. It only happens when I'm driving slowly or stop/start in trafffic and using the clutch alot but its not all the time either. The garage couldn't diagnose it an=d said it could be the shocks, but while they were looking at it an engine management light came on which I'd not had up to then. This showed an ignition error but there were about 20 odd items that came up on the report, mostly electrical things from what I remember.

Due to the ignition error/issue they looked at the spark plugs and there was a little engine oil in there but they said it looks like the spark plugs needed changing which were changed with the coil packs and that sorted the issue out, no more lights. At the same time they advised me the back box on the exhaust was cracked and needed repairing, but I couldn't afford to do that there and then so I said I would further down the line. I went away on holiday about 200 miles away from me, the car behaved perfectly and was great to drive but about a week after coming back I had an engine oil low warning light come on and needed to top it up so did that and went on as normal.

A few days ago as I left work I decided to pump my tyres up and did this without having the engine running on all four tyres. I went into the car settings and reinitialised the tyre sensor (never had to do that on car before when pumping up the tyres) and as soon as this was done I got a beep to confirm this was done and an "Engine Fault - Repair needed" error message come on the dash. The service light also stays on, but up to now I've never had any other engine management lights come or stay on. Everything I've read so far on other forums seems to be the engine management light stays on when the Engine fault message comes on , but i've had nothing. The EML does work because its on when I start the car before going off again like normal.

Coincidentally my exhaust does sound a bit more rumbly so I guess the backbox really needs doing, but would that cause the engine fault message I'm getting? or would it be linked to the tyres being pumped up? I've read of similar electrical issues when the battery is on its way out and showing multiple electrical issues on a diagnosis report, but I don't know how to check that. As for the engine oil i've got no idea whats happened with that. We came back from holiday about four weeks ago and I've not lost anymore since.

I'm going to get it booked in for another check at the garage but they're normally booked out for two weeks, so I thought if there is anything I can do beforehand to sort it myself then I'll try that first. Any help on anything I've mentioned would be good though. Thanks

Hi and welcome. In my experience you have all the signs of 12v battery voltage dropping low and setting off the most of the 20 odd comms misreads you described early in the text. Would you happen to know the precise fault codes which came up? If so, put them up so everyone can see them. I am not saying your battery is bad just that low voltage is being seen by the comms network and sensors. Cheers.

Thanks for getting back to me. I thought it may be that. I don't have the report to hand so I would need to look for it at home. I tried my OBD reader but as expected there are no codes on that. When I plugged in my reader I viewed the voltage and it was around 12.5 -12.6v, going up to 14.5v with the engine running.

So, would the battery have been drained to a point where it got below 12v because of the pump and triggered the engine fault message, but as the voltage seems ok now, its just the original code which I'm seeing and just needs to be cleared? I'll have a look for the report tonight and will post the codes tomorrow. Hopefully it is just something simple like the battery.

Don't jump to any conclusions yet. Put the codes and reports up and let the group have a look at it all. cheers
