2012 Citroen Relay starting issues

Unread post by RShort23 »

Hi. I recently purchased this van and have always had difficulties with starting. Initially assumed it was due to not being serviced/run for a while. Work was planned to change glow plugs to see if this was the issue, when the mechanic got in there they noticed that one of the plugs was removed and a bolt was inserted. This was fixed, glow plugs checked and resistances ok.

A problem was noted with the EGR valve during this work, have also now had this changed. However, I think the person who did this caused damage to one of the pipes into the EGR valve. When driving now there is an air/whooshing noise, this has been checked by the garage and booked in to change pipe on Monday as they think there is an air leak.

I have changed the battery, maf sensor, and the starter relay fuse.

Today it really struggled to start, it has been getting worse as the weather has been turning colder.

My plan now is to get the pipe changed on Monday - could this air hole cause a poor start? My next thinking was to replace the starter motor. I'm wondering whether it is worth just asking if the garage can do this on Monday as well, or wait until after the pipe is changed?

Any thoughts appreciated as I'm running out of hope it'll ever be right
