For some reason my DS9 has stopped start/ stopping.
I dont use as a daily drive and in the past when the battery was depleted the battery would go into economy mode quite quickly and shut down. This was a sign that the car needed a run to recharge it back up.
In July we had a few long trips maybe 500 miles in total over a week and after 30 mins/ an hour or so the start stop would start working, a sign the battery was charged up enough to allow this. One more random observation is the car always seems to need a well charged battery for the ECO mode freewheeling to occur. When I was on a long drive after the cars been sat for a while it may not freewheel for the first 30 mins/ 1hr but then would be ok. It's a good function to have when the car shows 70 odd mph and the revs are down at tickover. Helps MPG too, as any longish run ends up averaging out at about 45mpg.
The start of August was ok, another series of long runs, again about 500 miles, both SS and freewheeling worked fine. But then at the end of the month when we drove circa 150 miles for some reason the SS isnt kicking in but the freewheeling is working.
Not a major concern by any means but I just wonder if there could be any unknown reason above what is to be expected and explained in the manual as i wasnt driving it any differently.
I just wonder if as the service is overdue by 5 weeks (finally booked in for Monday) if the ECU tells the car not to SS till this is done.

Re: DS9 Start Stop
No, there's nothing regarding SS being told not to operate for service reasons - it's almost certainly likely to be specific conditions for operation (of which there can be many), but the most likely and common is battery. As you will know battery capacity deteriorates over time and to be honest at 5 years on modern vehicles, it will be time for a change. With so much electronic equipment on these vehicles there's a great demand and if the battery is below a certain percentage Stop Start goes out the Window.
My Aircross is completely different and does not have a voltage retention device or energy accumulator fitted- the SS system on this operates with reinforced starter and standard 12V battery only. If my battery hits 80% or less, it won't kick in. I had a new battery replaced whilst under warranty after tests, but after 2 weeks it stopped working again.
We only use the car about once or twice a week, and only on short journeys, so I am not surprised in the least, but even a good run as you say, is not always sufficient to actually charge the battery enough with all the other equipment and systems running too.
I suggest if it's important to you, that you just top it up with a smart charger. But again, once I charged mine up all day into early evening, SS worked once and that was it! So it doesn't bother me at all anymore, as I'd rather save the wear on the starter to be honest, so I leave it now. I'll probably replace it with an AGM battery instead of the EFB type it currently has next time.

Re: DS9 Start Stop
TNhanks for that comprehensive reply. More of a curiosity question than anything from my side. Good to know that it isn't service reasons.
I don't think I ever told you the tale but our car was apparently part of a big lease order that fell through for a company that was a Nissan subsiduary. The car was apparently in a batch of about 30 registered June 22. Then they seemed to offload some to motorpoint in dribs and drabs from Spring 2023 and kept about a dozen. About half were one white variant which essentially is white, while ours is designated another type of white but is anything but. I'd call it light grey in normal light but when the sun comes out it changes to a champagne colour. This is the one I wanted and I like the colour, and colour change even now. I waited for prices to fall and got one of the last ones.
I ended up getting it from the Nissan dealer last August but then when it went into the dealer for a warranty repair they dscovered the battery was non factory fit. Perhaps Nissan changed it because it's been sat for a year and was dead. But the battery fitted was a Napa 096N, when it should have been AGM096N. I'd always thought it felt a bit weedy but was in fact after a long run start stopping. But it wasn't even a SS battery. The dealer wanted £391 to change to the right battery......silly money. I ordered a Bosch S5 A08 off Tayna for a third of the price and fitted it myself. This was back in February 2024 so it's about 7 months old. The battery is a lot better than the old one for sure.
My feeling is the battery is OK, especially as FW'ing is still working (far more important for me) and the ignition shutdown isn't coming on prematurely, so it's a bit of a mystery. I won't want to take it up with the dealer as I have bigger fish to fry! Overall I'm like you, on balance id keep SS off most of the time when doing short runs.

Re: DS9 Start Stop
Sounds like its the same colour as our DS4 > Pearl Crystal... but as DVLA doesn't recognize Crystal as a colour, they designate all DS Pearl Crystal as 'WHITE" !DS9 wrote: ↑13 Sep 2024, 11:46 About half were one white variant which essentially is white, while ours is designated another type of white but is anything but. Confirmed with 2 DS dealers and DVLA...
As you said, it's certainly NOT white, but like you, we like the colour and it does change in different lights, being pearlescent paint..
We love it ;o)

Re: DS9 Start Stop
Lol. You know exactly what I mean then. Whoever called it white must have been colourblind. No way it's white.
You probably see the same as me. In a car park when you park up next to a car which looks a similar colour, then walk away from the car and look back it looks a completely different one. It's like your mind tells you it's light grey until its parked to another light grey car and then you realise it's something else. That's on a cloudy day.
Then when the bright sun comes out its like all the grey seems to vanish and it completely changes colour to champagne.
Like you, I like it a lot. And I bet the champgane look suits the DS4 well.

Re: DS9 Start Stop
Hello. SS system is one of a kind))) On my c4 b78 picasso with original factory battery SS was working as a dream, After replace battery for varta at the beginning SS was working for around 30sec then engine kicked in (on old battery till the very end from 42 sec to 1m32sec depends of the temperature outside) After a week with the new varta battery SS don't work anymore and I didn't change my habit of driving. My friends picasso b78 with varta battery no problem whatsoever. Now another car, my ds7 with yuasa battery. Fully charged new battery SS didn't work since the beginning. I did change in battery module type of the battery and all of the sudden SS started working. Been working only for 1 day. Since then nada. Another example my friends 3008 (battery bosch, can't say how old is it) SS didn't work He went for Euro trip this summer. He did around 2.5k miles over the whole Europe and his SS started working when he got back home. But only for 2 days)))) Now only green diode flashing and that's it. There was on servicebox a technical bulletin regarding SS whit the link to the form to fill out, so they know about the issue. Filled out 3 month ago but no answer as usual)))

It's important that the right type of battery is used, not just the make. What model number Varta battery is fitted?

Ok, so just to confirm your original battery was:DS9 wrote: ↑13 Sep 2024, 11:46 I ended up getting it from the Nissan dealer last August but then when it went into the dealer for a warranty repair they dscovered the battery was non factory fit. BATTERY: L3 760 VRLA2 EN AGM
So as long as it's 70AH 760A AGM you will be fine.
By the way, your paint is EPH - CHRYSTAL PEARL PAINT

Re: DS9 Start Stop
yup
The build sheet on our DS4 says CHRYSTAL PEARL PAINT too. ( EPH)
Seems dealers in UK call it both Pearl Crystal too... and drop the letter H from the word Crystal.
Oddly, even on the DS store, their little car models are named Pearl Crystal... whichever /whatever.. DVLA simply call it WHITE !
Still a nice colour... I do like your term Champagne, much better suited ...but is is not white ;o)
When parked, and depending on light... it can look either light grey, or light silver (ish)..
The contrast with Pearl White is very, very different.

Re: DS9 Start Stop
Thanks GMAB, I did check, double check, and recheck a few times before I bought one. This is the one I had on 72AH 670A before. It's handy that kwik fit and the like have a reg plate checker to give you the right one in the end but I did also check with the dealer who said it needed to be 70AH 760A and AGM type. A fella on another forum had the original battery fitted and it was the right Ah/A but some obscure chinese brand..... they are made in China.
I still havent't got any replacement touch up paint. Do you know if they all a much of a muchness or is it worth buying from a certain supplier?
Busybeas - I never saw the car prior to buying and the dealer sent me a vid online. It was recorded on a sunny day and he said in the sunlight the champagne tones pop out. Very apt imo.
If I had pearl white everyone would think it's a wedding car.
Aside - By the way when I did my battery research I found out that Bosch and Varta are the same thing (Varta was a bit more expensive for my car), they are built in the same factory. Another thing is everyone on pistonheads said Tayna are the people to buy off, very cheap and deliver as they should. I was very happy with them.

Re: DS9 Start Stop
Agreed. I replaced the Varta in my C5 with a Bosch, a Varta wasn't easily available and the Bosch was 55 quid.Aside - By the way when I did my battery research I found out that Bosch and Varta are the same thing (Varta was a bit more expensive for my car), they are built in the same factory. Also replaced the battery in the Civic and now in the Mazda 6 with batteries from Tayna. Yuasa for the last two though.
